Vision is one of the most important blessings a human being has. However, thousands of people living in Mogadishu and across Somalia struggle with poor eyesight, lacking access to quality healthcare services.
In response to this need, Aayatin Relief and Development Organization (ARDO) implemented a charitable project to support patients in need of eye surgery, in collaboration with ARAG Eye Center.
This project, carried out in February 2026, directly impacted the lives of ten (10) Somali patients, most of whom were vulnerable and elderly men and women.
Six (6) of the patients received eye surgery, while four (4) others were informed by doctors that they did not require surgery but were instead provided with medication and medical care.
All these services were provided free of charge, which deeply touched many members of the community who cannot afford healthcare costs.
ARDO did not limit its efforts to surgery alone but provided comprehensive services including:
Initial medical examinations
Eye surgeries
Post-surgery medications
Distribution of eyeglasses
Awareness on post-operative care
This integrated approach ensured that patients received complete care that supported their recovery.
The results of the project were clearly visible. The treated patients regained improved vision, enabling them to return to independent living. Many had previously depended on constant assistance but are now able to live on their own.
Furthermore, the project increased hope and happiness within the community, demonstrating that positive change is possible through support and collective effort.
Mrs. Saiida Sheeq Xasan, leader of ARDO, stated:
“ARDO is not dependent on government or other institutions; rather, it receives support from fellow Somalis and friends around the world who contribute for the sake of helping vulnerable communities.”
Despite these achievements, there are still clear challenges: limited funding and a high demand for eye care services.
Nevertheless, ARDO has adopted a strategy focused on prioritizing those most in need and implementing high-impact projects.
ARDO plans to continue its efforts, aiming to provide eye surgery services to up to 50 more patients in the near future, God willing.
This reflects the organization’s commitment to reaching more people who are still waiting for the opportunity to regain their vision.
This project stands as evidence that collective compassion and cooperation can transform human well-being.
Aayatin Relief and Development Organization continues to be a beacon of hope for vulnerable communities, guided by principles of charity, accountability, and humanitarian service.
