Water and Sanitation

Access to clean water and proper sanitation saves lives. Our Water and Sanitation Program works to provide safe drinking water, build sanitation facilities, and promote hygiene education in communities facing water scarcity and poor infrastructure. By installing wells, water systems, and latrines, and teaching hygiene practices, we reduce waterborne diseases and improve dignity, safety, and quality of life for families.

Clean water and proper sanitation are fundamental human rights, yet millions of people in Somalia still lack access to them.

Inadequate water systems and poor sanitation contribute to disease, child mortality, and lost opportunities for education and work. Our Water and Sanitation Program is dedicated to changing this reality.

We construct and rehabilitate wells, boreholes, rainwater harvesting systems, and community water points. These projects bring safe drinking water closer to homes, reducing the time and physical burden—especially for women and children—of fetching water from distant sources.

Sanitation facilities are equally important. We build household and community latrines, improve waste management systems, and support schools with child-friendly sanitation infrastructure. These efforts enhance dignity, privacy, and safety, particularly for women and girls.

Hygiene promotion is central to preventing disease. We conduct community campaigns on handwashing, safe water storage, and environmental cleanliness. By encouraging positive hygiene practices, we reduce the spread of waterborne illnesses.

During emergencies, access to water becomes even more critical. We provide rapid water trucking, purification supplies, and temporary sanitation facilities for displaced communities, ensuring immediate relief during crises.

Our long-term vision is to build sustainable water and sanitation systems managed by communities themselves. With training, maintenance support, and local ownership, we help ensure that clean water flows not just today, but for generations to come.
